Birthday Buddies

Way back last June when we found out we were expecting again Heather noted she'd call upon some friends to borrow maternity clothes as we did when we were expecting James.  No use buying a new wardrobe for the next 8 months or so and it made perfect sense!

Our friend Jenny, who has a daughter about a year older than James was her first friend she called upon - but Jenny beat her to it!  Jenny called in early September and had a similar request - turns out we were due three days apart.  Her due date was February 9 and ours was February 12.  So we obviously were both in the same boat and as a result both added to our maternity wardrobes this time around.

Another four months roll by and what are the chances we'd both have our babies on the same day - albeit even two weeks early?!?  Well that's exactly what happened!

On January 28, 2012 Henry Matthew and Elijah James were both welcomed into the world.  Henry has a few hours on Elijah but they'll be birthday buddies for life!

Welcome to the world Elijah - can't wait to see how you boys grow together!

Passing Time

James continues to be a great big brother to Henry - so much so that he's always wanting to be near him and giving him hugs and kisses.  He's already showing his "leading ways" by showing Henry how things work and in particular his cars and trucks.

Last week he got right down on the floor with Henry to show him his construction truck.  He was pretty adamant that Henry was listening to him as he talked about it until Henry bopped him in his face with his little fist.  To which he laughed and then said, "No hitting Baby Henry!"

Henry is now seven weeks old - and it's crazy how fast this time goes.  He's cooing these days and I think we finally caught a smile on camera too!

James has been working on potty training recently and we spent this past weekend in "big boy pants."  A few accidents, but also a few successes, so we'll keep working on it.  He's been pretty excited to call Grandmas and Grandpas after he has a successful potty and his reward which he picked out at the store, mini-marshmallows :)

We've been blessed with wonderful weather for March the past week.  80 degrees in mid-March - it has been a welcome surprise.  We've been able to get outside and enjoy the weather and activities - heading to the park, riding bikes, driving cars, and playing in the clubhouse!  We hope it isn't too good to be true - we'll see how long it lasts!

Hanging at Home

We've kept James on his "normal" routine of heading to daycare each day while Mom is home on maternity leave with Henry.   Henry and Mom get some quality time each day together and so does Daddy if he happens to be home.

Thus far Henry is much more laid back than James ever was.  He's been sleeping in 4-5 hour spurts in the evening and doesn't nurse as frequently as James did so we keep wondering if this is just a phase or if this is just his style.  Regardless, we're accepting of it as it's made life pretty predictable right now which one can't often say with a newborn at home.

He is now one month old and we can tell he's grown as his legs are now finally filling his sleepers and we should be able to go without the head support in his car seat here soon.  We don't know how much he weighs right now, but if its any indication from the number of diapers were changing at this house lately, he's eating enough!  He'll go in for his two-month check up at the end of March.

We continue to try to get out of the house a bit each day - which is a little more challenging with winter weather but walking at the mall and the gym has been a welcome respite from being inside the house each day.  Another eight weeks at home with Mom ... let's hope spring "springs" soon!
