Week of the Young Child

Each year in April the boys' daycare center celebrates the Week of the Young Child.  Part of this celebration involves daily dress up day themes.  We're happy to oblige their participation and James really got into the spirit of it this year.

Monday was "Wear your favorite color day" ... okay so Mom spaced out on day one and boys went to school wearing whatever clothes she pulled out of the drawer that morning.  Mommy fail!

Tuesday was "Sports team day" ... James said that both him and Henry were going to wear their Twins shirts that day so they went into school almost dressed like "Twins" that day and I unfortunately didn't get a picture.

Wednesday was "Superhero/Princess day" ... James went dressed like Superman as that's the only superhero outfit we have in stock at the Clark household.  He said he wanted to be Spiderman, so I have a feeling we might be in the market for that costume for Halloween this year.

Thursday was "Wacky hair and clothes day" ... with our delay of getting both boys' hairs cut - they were prime for spiking and making wacky.  James wore mismatched pants, shorts, socks and two different shoes to school that day.

Thursday also happened to be Teacher Appreciation day so James and Momma baked up some brownies for the daycare teachers the night before and James was a big help stirring everything together and helping measure too!

Friday was "Pajama day" ... both boys were happy to head to school in their jammies that day ... as was Mom since getting them dressed was one less thing she needed to do in the morning before heading out the door.

When we got home from school on Friday there was still a lot of snow that needed to be shoveled in the alley way which James initially wanted to help with but then his attention ventured to his tricycle waiting on the sidelines of the garage.  He asked and I allowed him to take a few laps around in the garage while I finished shoveling - seriously spring when are you going to get here?!?  This kid is going stir crazy and can't wait to be playing outside again with his bike and tball set.

It was a fun week and always something to look forward to when the winter turns to spring each year!

When kids get sick ...

We've had our share of sickness at the Clark household this winter/spring - so needless to say we're all ready for summer to get here to kick some of these "inside germs" to the curb.

Henry has taken the brunt of it with stomach and respiratory crud and in mid-March we found our selves struggling with the balance of work and childcare when he came home sick with a fever and couldn't go back to school for a few days.  What's a parent to do?

Mom is in her busy season at work and couldn't afford to be out of the office another day that week having already missed one and a half days so Henry suited up and went to work with Papa for part of the day.

To be fair he slept a good portion of the morning so Papa did actually get some work done.  Thankfully Papa has an office with a door and Henry made himself at home that morning checking out his surroundings and assisting with Papa's work.

We hope we don't have to resort to this too often, but we're thankful we both of have pretty flexible work environments and supervisors that allow to "do what we need to do" to get our work done.

This was a recent repeat performance in May ... at the height of everything going on Henry gets pink eye.  Guess it was his way of saying ... "Mom, Dad ... I'm just gonna throw you for a loop so you have to spend the day with me and cuddle."  Unfortunately Dad put him to work - but he did happen to be a good office mate for the day even sleeping when he needed to.  Can't exactly say he slept on the job, but that did make a few hours go by faster.
